Let’s Get Hydrated!

Let’s Get Hydrated!

So it’s summer and it’s getting hot. Whether we’re outside walking, working out, or working on our tan we need to DRINK THAT WATER!

I’ll be honest, drinking water is not something I’ve always been good at. In fact, if I’m not intentionally thinking about it, I can go a whole day without drinking anything. Crazy, right? I always knew that staying hydrated was important, but it had never been something that I made a priority. Which, as someone who works out as much as I do, you’d think I’d be pretty good at this. Anyways, here are a few things that I’ve learned and done to get my water in –

  1. Get a water bottle that you LOVE

  2. Learn how much water you need to drink
  3. Commit to drinking it everyday

Get A water bottle you love!

Ok this was so important to me! I’ve always just drank from plastic water bottles or from a nalgene. The thing that I found was that I would drink SO much more water if I was drinking from a straw. So I bought a few reusable straws and started putting them in my nalgene. Nalgenes hold around 32oz of water, so it’s a great place to start! However, I didn’t love my bottle and I didn’t love filling it up multiple times.

So I got on Amazon and searched 64oz water bottles and found this gem. Let me tell you, I’M OBSESSED. This is everything I wanted it to be. I’ve been trying to drink anywhere between ½ a gallon to 1 gallon a day and this definitely helps do the trick. 64oz is half a gallon, so I know if I drink at least 1 full bottle a day, I’m doing pretty good. Find it on my SHOP tab!

How much water should you drink?

There’s no one size fits all when it comes to drinking water. Water intake and hydration can be dependent on many factors included weight, physical activity, sweat, sodium intake, amongst many others.

However, it’s recommended that we drink 1/2 our weight in ounces of water. So take a 140 female, for example, it would be recommended that she drink 70 ounces of water per day.

Drinking that much water is going to seem like a lot at first. Because it can be a huge adjustment!

I’ve found it easier to drink all my water (1) if I’m drinking out of a straw and (2) if I have 1 bottle to last me all day.  That way you can see your progress as opposed to filling a small water bottle up multiple times a day. I personally try to drink 64oz  – 1 gallon a day!

Commit!

Now that we have an idea of how much water we should be drinking…COMMIT TO IT!

Get a water bottle you want to carry around. Pay attention to your body and see how it responds to your new found hydration! It’s amazing the difference it makes mentally and physically.

Do what you can to get it done for the day. I’ve added aminos, MIO, or crystal lights to my water before. There’s no shame in making it taste good.

Just drink the dang water!
